EPA Confirms EasyDECON Successfully Eliminates Anthrax at Contaminated Congressional Mailrooms

Huntsville, AL - Washington, D.C., Nov. 5, 2001 -- Peter Beucher, CEO and President of EnviroFoam Technologies (EFT), announced today that EFT has been contracted by the federal government for remediation of contaminated mailroom facilities at the Ford and Dirksen Congressional Office Buildings. It was reported to EFT by Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) personnel Wednesday that both buildings have been effectively remediated. EFT personnel remain on site for continued technical consultation and additional remediation if necessary to support the overall federal effort.

Over the past week, the EPA tested the kill effectiveness of EFT's special EasyDECON™ AB (Anthrax Blend). The test regimen confirmed the effectiveness of EasyDECON™.

EFT's EasyDECON™ was chosen for use because EasyDECON™ kills the actual Anthrax spore, and because it is safe to use and environmentally friendly. EasyDECON™ was the only remediation material tested that did not severely damage the office environment.

EasyDECON™ can be delivered as a liquid or foam, and has been tested against live agents in each form. Both foam and liquid are reliable and consistent, but foam was chosen for this incident due to the size of the coverage area. Traditional methods of remediation after chemical or biological contamination have employed bleach as a neutralizing agent, but it is destructive and labor-intensive to apply. EasyDECON™ foam is safe, thorough, easy to apply, and completely environmentally friendly.

In addition, foam can be applied quickly, with complete coverage, even over large areas, including walls and ceilings. The moist foam clings or dwells for sufficient time to effectively 'kill' the contamination.

EnviroFoam Technologies ( EFT), headquartered in Huntsville, Ala., is a licensee of the Department of Energy's Sandia National Laboratories for the commercialization of the decontamination technology developed by Sandia.

EFT was founded two years ago to commercialize EasyDECON™. The company provides its decontamination products directly to the federal government and through a distribution network to local government agencies, as well as strategic commercial and industrial markets.

Sandia National Laboratories' development of the formulation was funded by the Department of Energy's National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) through the NNSA's Chemical and Biological National Security Program.

Sandia is a multi-program laboratory operated by Sandia Corporation, a Lockheed Martin Company, for the United States Department of Energy under contract DE-AC04-94AL85000. Within its main facilities in Albuquerque, New Mexico and Livermore, California, Sandia has major research and development responsibilities in national security, energy and environmental technologies, and economic competitiveness.
